Hiki's artsies (or something like that)
Re: Hiki's artsies (or something like that)
Erm... I didn't get it this time... are you unable or unwilling to change the settings on your scan software?

Neither xD The file is huuuuge and rather blurry if I just save it the way the scanner scans it. And since this computer isn't mine, I cannot afford to put lots of huge files on here, so I resize the file immediately after scanning.

Re: Hiki's artsies (or something like that)
Ok, I don't have the original to rescan, so I re-sampled the one I have at double the dpi and sharpened it a bit then saved it as a jpeg at 10% compression. It's about the same file size as the one you uploaded. here's what I get.

Have you tried scanning at black+white (not grayscale!) and saving as gif file?
I have a tool that allows selective compression in jpg images. Instead of treating all 16x16 blocks the same it reduces the bitrate for simple blocks while increasing the rest. It creates a very good quality at high compression rates.

I wouldn't suggest saving the image as a black and white image. With pencil drawings it make them look really bad.Sakura wrote:Have you tried scanning at black+white (not grayscale!) and saving as gif file?
Maybe I should send Hiki a large flash drive so that she can save off her images without having to worry about taking up someone elses hard drive space.

Re: Hiki's artsies (or something like that)
It really depends on the dpi. At 1200 dpi there is no blurring at all. And gif saves without loss of quality and without increasing the file size too much because it compresses the image in whole and not one 16x16 block at once.

Erm.. I'm actually happy with my pencil scans..
I appreciate the tips and all, but I'm not the one who wants them bigger xD And since I upload them at dA as well, I don't need a ginormous-sized file because they'll make it smaller anyway. Might as well do it myself so I can make sure the quality is good enough for me..
Also, I don't think my scanner can scan at 1200 dpi xD

Here's a preview of something I'm working on :) Kaigara got a make-over =w= You probably won't see the finished piece for a looooong time, if I upload it at all xD
