Crazy Games - 18+ hours boss fight in Final Fantasy!

Post by Sakura » August 18th, 2008, 7:38 pm

Talk about going too far in an MMORPG.

Apparently a Final Fantasy XI elite guild 'Beyond the Limitation' attemted to kill the toughest boss in the game, Pandemonium Warden. Sony Online Entertainment claims to have the toughest online game ever - no doubt they're telling the truth, because Beyond the Limitation canceled the event after more than 18 (eighteen) hours of non-stop gameplay when members started passing out and vomiting at their computers.

One of the players with name Sylphet said: "People were passing out and getting physically ill. We decided to end it before we risked turning into a horrible new story about how video games ruin people’s lives."

This is an embarassing story for Sony who tells the player at game start, they "have no desire to see your real life suffer as a consequence. Don't forget your family, your friends, your school, or your work."

Sylphet's comment: "None of us doubt that Pandemonium Warden can be killed. We just call into question exactly what the development team thinks is reasonable from human beings."

As a casual player I wouldn't want to get involved into any action that keeps me - without bathroom break - into a single fight. To me the limit is 2 hours for the toughest fights. What's your opinion? Would you stay online for 23 hours just to get the absolute killer item in a video game?

The longest, one-match gaming session I've ever been in, was in a LAN party back in second semester of college, where we had an epic 8 players "free for all", all goes battle in "Starcraft: Broodwar". The battle lasted a full 5 hours, but we had a 15 minutes rest after around 3 hours. I finished second... SageMatt backstabbed me with a Zergling rush after my Dark Templar army destroyed the only other player left...

FF XI's culprit is the ability for mages to rest during the fight. In Warcraft - the retard game of choice - fights are over once the mages run out of mana and drank all their mana potions. I've never been involved in a fight that exceeded 15 minutes.

Warcraft II took us alot longer. I enjoyed playing map "Friends" with a friend. I like playing co-op because I'm a healing type magical girl. :hmm:

What happens when they don't include limit breaks in the game?

I can play a game for waaaaaaaaaay longer than 3 hours. I played Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES from 3 am 'tll 9 am with a friend of mine (n_n) 't was so much fun.

Without limit breaks... I would cry...

Lucky for me I can't do anything close to that. For some reason if I play a video game for 3 or more hours I will get an incredibly bad headache that will last for the rest of the day. In fact I have one right now. :sob: My PS2 is working again so today I was finally able to work on KH2. Only a few more items before I can synthesize the Ultima weapon...OW! pain....
