I tried to follow your instructions Sakura, it doesn't work. It says I'm not the owner of the fstab file. It's owned by root, I can't change user to root without the password. Can I reset the password to root in the user group management tab in the administrator utilities?

If you have the latest Ubuntu, just go to a console and type:
This will download and install both ntfs-3g and a graphical front-end for easy configuration.
EDIT: You will need the root password for this (it will ask for it). You should have set it up while on the Linux setup. If you don't remember doing that you could always try your own account's password.

He cannot do that without root access.
The 'sudo' password of your system is... your user password. For example if you use "oldwrench" as a username and a password of "test" to log on to Ubuntu, then "test" is also your sudo password. (Duh!)
No there is no simple way to reset a user password without root access. You have to overwrite the file /etc/shadow of your system with that of another system with a known user password.

I could be just talking in circles here. I told you I'm no good at software stuff. Yes, the terminal asks me for my password, and I enter it. But it will not allow me to edit the fstab file because it says I am not the owner. If I check properties of the fstab file it says the owner is root and it is read only, I am not allowed to change permissions. So far nothing I do lets me write to the fstab file. I'll have to do some more searching, I don't have time now.

ANFSCD.......
Tall man's assistant directing/shooting a movie for the next couple days, which means he is unreachable except when he gets back here to sleep....but who cares about that! I've gotta deal with crazy people at my house for days (okay, never really minded that either)
But last night I was up until 2am (only a problem cuz I got up at 5am yesterday) making food for the production crew and the #*%@ prima donna actors!!!!!!!! I don't even get the fun of going to the shoot cuz I have to work

and now I have a zillion dishes to do before work, and I'll have to do it all over again after I get home at midnight!

K---done venting.

Excepting anime voice actors, most of whom are also stage and movie actors. They are some of the most fun people you will meet. I can't think of any I've met that I didn't enjoy their company.
