Im using Ghost for almost 5 years and know it's doing it's job which is why I suggested it. There is other free OpenSource imaging software. A nice tool is Macrium Reflect which is shareware but comes with a restore CD and is also a backup software. It was a Giveawayoftheday this year.

Right, ghost is always one of the top rated imaging utilities. I have this thing though, if I'm going to use it, i feel like I should purchase it........ that's why I'm going to try some freeware solutions first. If they don't work well enough, Ill try Ghost. I have to get all my applications up and running first though I guess.
Since you're security paranoid...... sort of anyway, here is one you should maybe look at. It has a free version, and is made to help stop zero day threats. It's made to work along with your present antivirus software.
http://www.threatfire.com/ There have been good reviews of threatfire, so I have it on my computer.

Ok you want something that's free. What about PING then?
PING (Partimage Is Not Ghost) is the perfect choice to backup and restore whole partitions, an easy way (DVD or Network). It sounds like Symantec Ghost(tm), but has even better features, and is totally free

Offline backups are always of higher quality compared to online backups, since no files are in use and there are no broken system structures on disk. And you can remove the (encrypted) pagefile and clean up the temp directory before running the backup thus saving time and space.
And by using Truecrypt's TCGINA and TCTEMP you can backup all your documents and settings in one single file and protect them with a password.

Hmph, just lost my drive along with its valueable data of 300 GB - this is bad! The worst is I also lost Akari's picture, so no more blackmailing, no more pressuring her to send me her clothes.
That's the last time I bought a Western Digital drive... it didn't even last three years.

I tend to like Seagate better, but I just put a WD in my shop computer. It's supposed to be a "green" drive, varies the speed as you need it, and shuts down when you don't.

Crisis girl was at it again........ I thought when she got married I was about done with this, but yesterday we spent the afternoon going to Mankato and trying to help straighten her out. Her Hubby was at work, and she wouldn't call him. Well, maybe having been sent to the crisis center will scare her enough so she will try to co something about it. I just don't understand women at all........... Why can't they be more like men? (Form the song in the musical, My Fair Lady.)
