I went and played Pong in the meantime. My so very slow "graphics" card can't handle any more than that.

EDIT: BTW, I check the forum on a text based browser. And if the pages have too much text, I have to forge the http request manually to avoid filling the RAM with the browser software.

The best you can get in Europe is a OC-768 (38,4 GBit) for about 16000 Euro/Month...

But back to my hard disk... I'm trying to use the following to prevent any more data loss: carbonite.com
It's an online backup solution which integrates perfectly in Windows Explorer. They are offering 2 GB for free. You just have to richt click on any file or directory in explorer and it will schedule this file for upload. The file(s) are labeled with a yellow or green dot to indicate whether they're backed up or not. Their software will update in the background and slow down the very moment you start using your computer. If you leave it unattended it's going into overdrive (or so they claim)
Of course I have a backup USB hard disk now to prevent any more data loss.
For my convenience I also have installed Returnil and Reflect.

Reflect was a Giveawayoftheday. It allows backing up full system partitions while the system is running and also supports full or incremental backups of files and directories using a fixed schedule (you need to utilize Windows AT.exe for that but it creates batch files for the backup)

Returnil is "locking" your system, so nothing whatever you do is saved to disk. What's it's good for? Say, you get this exe file from a friend and you're not sure whether it's a virus or not. Activate Returnil and just run it. After a reboot everything is "lost" and you still have your clean XP. Or perhaps you want to try this shareware you found recently. Or you got one of these famous "Keygen" tools from a russian site Just activate Returnil and fire it up. After a reboot your system is clean again.

Returnil sounds interesting. I normally use a virtual machine for those cases but the thing is too slow.

There is a free personal copy. However, to turn OFF system protection you have to reboot. And you cannot use it to test setup files which require a reboot since the install goes *poof* at exactly this moment. You might be better off with Virtual PC 2007?
