*Aki smiled when Mike accepted the lunch she made. Then blushed when he started complementing her.* Ki-kitsune hime? Oh my! *Aki felt the heat creeping up her cheeks. Aki listened attentively when Mike started to talk about flying.*
Aki: I would! When do you think we can do that?
-----
Daiki: Is this really necessary Kimara?
Kimara: Well not necessary but it's fun...don't you think they're cute together?
*Daiki rolls his eyes when Kimara peered closer. They were both in the large tree a few feet away from Mike and Aki.*
Daiki: Shouldn't we give them privacy?
Kimara, turning to shoot Daiki a skeptical look: Privacy? They're surrounded by hundreds of other students...
Daiki: Point taken.
Kimara: Now, shush...Aki's giving him the bento she made.

*Mike finished the bento box, down to the last grain of rice. Aki had moved closer, and he put his arm around her. Mike looked up at the clouds and sighed.*
Mike: Right now...... I wish. *Mike picked up his laptop.* Really, we can go any time, whenever you want to. We can take the subway to the airport where they rent the gliders. There would even be time enough after school to still catch some thermals for a few hours. *Mike pointed out the plane he had chosen, on his laptop screen.* with a powered glider, even after you lose the thermals, you can still fly back to the airfield with nothing to worry about. *Mike looked at Aki, eyes shining with excitement.* We could go today, if you'd like. You could call your mom and tell her you'd be a little late for supper.
*In the hall of the Kisune elders, an argument heated up over Aki's fate.*
Kenichi: We can't allow Aki to continue her infatuation with that human boy. She will have to be brought here, whether she wants to or not.
Iwao: I agree we have to get her away from the boy, but if we try to take her by force, it will only turn her against us.
Kenichi: Then she will just have to learn to accept it. This is her place, she is to important to let her become warped by another race.
Hiroshi: If that fool boy, Daiki, had just brought her, we wouldn't have this trouble. Now He is involved with a Canine girl. It seems we shouldn't have trusted him in the first place.
Eiji: I'm afraid you're right, it seems we can't trust Daiki to do what is right anymore. We will have to bring Aki, by force if we have to. If her parents object, we will have to use the writings of the old law, and force them to submit.
Iwao: And what of the boy? He fought to get her back from Osamu....... What if he should come after us?
Kenichi: He had Daiki's help, and also Aki's help, to fight Osamu. Perhaps Osamu's black arts weren't as strong as we had imagined.
*Fumio entered the room and sat at the table, setting an ancient book in font of himself.*
Fumio: And you think you could take Aki away from one such as this Micheal?
Kenichi: What? Do you think I couldn't deal with one human boy?
Fumio: The boy isn't human....... *The other four elders looked at Fumio, surprised.* I overheard the military woman, she was talking to one of the captives, she told him that Micheal is not human......
Kenichi: So what, her words don't mean anything......
Fumio: Then consider this, Daiki told me that he took Aki from the room, and left Micheal alone with Osamu. Could a human have fought Osamu alone? And what of the bolts of lightning that struck the building, you all saw them, and from a clear sky. *The others stirred in their chairs.* And finally there is the amulet he wears. The one I saw hanging around his neck. An amulet that, Daiki told me, glows when he fights.......... This amulet!
*Fumio opened the ancient book and pushed it across the table in front of the others. The elders stared at the illustration, they all knew the picture, it was Thor's amulet.*
Iwao: But..... how can it be? Are you sure? You aren't mistaken? The boy doesn't fit the descriptions, given in the text, of the god, Thor.
Fumio: I saw it very clearly, and Daiki told me it glows with a golden light when Micheal is fighting, exactly as it is described in the ancient text. Who knows? If not Thor himself, perhaps a son, or descendant. What do we know of them but the ancient texts? ............. Now who wants to be the one to try to take Aki away from him? ......... Perhaps it would be better for all of our race if Aki were able to seduce him away from the humans, and to join with our people.
Hiroshi: But why is he here? After so many millenia, why have the Aesir returned? Have they come to destroy the world again?
Eiji: If so, then Fumio is right, it would be best for our race if the girl held the boys heart.

*Mike had been to excited to pay any attention to school the rest of the day. He told Hideki that he and Aki wouldn't be at the clubhouse afer school, they were going flying. Aki had called her mom and they were able to get her permission for Aki to go flying. Mike told her they wouldn't be very late since they would have to land before nightfall. That would still give them a couple hours for their first flight. Should be plenty of time for what Mike planned. Mike had heard some of the air force guys talking about taking a girl for a flight and joining the "mile high club". Mike asked them what it was and they just laughed and told him girls get excited when you take them flying....... He'd understand when he was old enough.*
*They took the train out to the regional airport and now were facing a middle aged man behind the counter at the Flight school and airplane rental.*
Mike: We'd like to rent a plane, the Aerovolt 180.
(Man) Eisaku: *Looks critically at the two.* Right, do you have a pilots license, boy?
Mike: Ah... I have my military identification card, with my pilot status. *Mike fished out the card and handed it to Eisaku.*
Eisaku looked at the card: What are you trying to pull, boy? Just because your tall? You're wearing high school cloths, you can't be old enough to have military flight training.
Mike: But I do have.... I mean..... I am in the military...... ah....... I could call my commanding officer and......
Eisaku: I don't know how you faked this, but just because you can fly on one of your computer games doesn't mean you can fly a real plane. You could get in real trouble over this.......... You just wait right here. Eisaku went into the back room.
Mike looked sadly at Aki: I really didn't think this would be a problem...... I guess I just didn't think about it.

*Aki smiled reassuringly at Mike.*
Aki:It's alright, Mike. I guess it just isn't common for highschool students to fly planes.
*Eisaku comes back out a little flustered. He hands Mike's military card with an embarrassed look.*
Eisaku: Er...I...um, I called and it was confirmed. Sorry, sir. *Eisaku did a little awkward salute before he motioned for Aki and Mike to follow him.* The plane you wanted is over here.

*Mike was really relieved, he was afraid that the man would call the police, then there would have been a lot of explaining to do and they would never have gotten off the ground.*
Eisaku: The plane's all charged up and ready to go...... Sorry about the misunderstanding captain. I just didn't expect the force to have anyone as young as you.
Mike: Ya, it's ok, I grew up there, kinda unique I guess.
Eisaku: I guess your being with the research division explains things a bit........ I was was with the Force, you know, years back. I was stationed at Osaka myself.
Mike: Oh? What division?
Eisaku: 85th, transport wing, the heavy lifters.
Mike: Wow, you flew the big stuff, that's neat........ Um, how much is the rent on the plane?
Eisaku: Oh, you don't need to worry, your command told me the Force would cover any, um, training exercise that you wanted to take. *Eisaku looked over Aki, then looked at mike and winked. He remembered taking his girlfriend on a "training" flight.* You two just bee good up there.
Mike: Yes sir. *Mike was hoping things would be very good up there.*
*Mike took Aki around the plane, showing her how the pilot did a walk around to check the plane over. Then Mike helped her into her seat and buckled her in. Mike got in and after getting clearance from the control tower, switched on the motor, and taxied to the runway. Mike looked at Aki, her eyes were wide as she watched all around her.*
Mike: Ready, Aki? *She just nodded.*
*Mike pushed the throttle ahead and the plane, almost noiselessly, gained speed. Soon the wings started to arc upward and the ground slowly fell away. Mike was in his element now. He smiled, Aki was holding tight to the seat arms, her face slightly flushed as she watched the city slip below them. Mike banked the plane in a turn toward their school. He was going to fly past the school then over Aki's house before heading toward the ocean shore to find the thermals where he could shut down the motor and have some fun with the glider. Mike figured they had plenty of time to reach the mile high that he was so interested in. Soon they were in a gentle banked turn over the school. Aki looked like she was thoroughly excited now........ the guys were right.*
Mike: What do you think of flying, Aki? Do you see anyone down by the school? ............... When we get away from the city, I'll let you fly, I'll show you how. Would you like that?

*Selene was surprised that Mike and Aki weren't at the clubhouse after school. She had expected to see them, all the others were there.*
Selene: Kunikida-kun, do you know why Aki and Mike aren't here?
Kunikida: Oh, Hideki told me Mike was taking Aki flying.
Selene quickly looked out the window: Flying! Oh, I really love flying. Look, maybe that's them.
*Selene rushed out the door, Kunikida hurried out behind her. Selene was waving at the silent plane that was doing a slow turn over the school.*
Selene: A power glider, it must be electric, it's so quiet. I'd like to learn to fly a glider too, someday.
Kunikida: You know how to fly?
Selene nodded: My dad taught me. He's let me fly our plane since I was little. As soon as I turn sixteen, I'm going to take my solo and get my license, then we can go flying too.
Kunikida: You have an airplane?? And you can fly. You amaze me Selene-chan, you can do everything.
Selene blushed quite brightly: No I can't, I don't know how to drive a car.... and you do............ I'd like it if you took me for a drive sometime. *Selene blushed even more, thinking about how forward she must have sounded.*
Kunikida smiled: Ya, I'd like that too.

*Mike headed out of town, and cut the motor at 500 meters altitude. With a practiced eye, Mike found the aftrernoon thermals that lifted the light plane higher. Aki was fascinated as they soared silently with the sea birds. As they slowly gained altitude, Mike had Aki take hold of the control stick. Mike kept his hand lightly on his control stick as he instructed Aki on how to guide the plane. She was doing really well, Mike thought that, with a few months practice, he could teach Aki how to fly too. Mike kept his eye on the altimeter, they were past 1200 meters, at this rate, they would soon be past the 1600 meter mar, that magic mile high.Mike was getting more excited as the plane got higher.*
*Earlier, at the air force base radar room, a radar operator wondered what kind of orders these were. He wondered if it were some joke or something. Orders were to keep watch on a civilian plane, a glider. It seemed crazy, why would air force command be interested in somebody's sport plane? Well, who knows, maybe someon's trying to dfect or something......... Na, that's crazy, you couldn't get anywhere in that glider. Well, at least it was an electric, those solar panels made them show up really well on radar.*
*The plane had crossed 1700 meters, Mike was nervous, and excited. What young boy wouldn't be? Aki was so cute, and so exciting in her school uniform, sitting so close to him. He could tell she was excited, could see it in her eyes, and the flush on her cheeks. But what if she wasn't ready for this, what if she didn't want to right now? Well, Mike had to try, The older guys in the air force said girls were easy when you got them up in a plane.*
*At the air base*
Officer: Having fun? So, how's your glider doing?
Radar man smiles: Oh, this is just too much fun. *Laughs* It's going to bore me to death, that things so slow, I could take a nap and they wouldn't have gone anywhere. I still think someone's playing a joke on us.
*Mike looked at Aki, he was suddenly very shy about this, but it was now or never.*
Mike: Aki, um, you know, um, we're all alone up here, I mean, no one can bother us here, and, well, I was hoping that um........
*Aki turned and looked into his eyes. Her excited eyes drew him in. Mike leaned toward her, Mike thought about it, he could lift the small girl across to his seat and....... But Mike dismissed the thought. As much as he would like to have her sit on his lap, where he could put his arms around her, it was impractical in the plane, and with her short school skirt, might be rather embarrassing. Mike leaned closer, he could feel her rapid breath on his cheek. Mike reached up and traced his fingers around the rim of her ear, slowly sliding his hand behind her head, drawing her nearer. Mike could feel the warmth of her lips, then the feather light softness as her lips touched his.*
Radar operator: Ya, It has to be a joke, this is as exciting as watching paint dry......... What the hell!...... *He sat up, quickly making adjustments.*....... Oh sh***.
*At the first soft touch of their lips, there was a sudden shudder and jarring of the plane. Mike spun around an took the control stick, searching the instruments and sky. Mike's air force training had prepared him for anything......... except this.*

Officer, looking at the radar screen: What is it? What happened?
Radar Operator: It's gone....... I was looking right at it and it disappeared.
Officer: Malfunction?
Operator: No, all the other targets are still there. *He increased the resolution.* It's just not there.
Officer: Did they get below your range.
Operator: Not a chance, they were at almost 1800 meters, they couldn't have gotten out of range that fast if they dove strait down. I'd have seen it if they went anywhere.
Officer: They can't just disappear, damn, did they blow up or something?
Operator, picking up his telephone handset: I don't know. How could it blow up, there's nothing in an electric to blow up. I've got to inform command.
*Kelly was relaxing, cooking her supper when the phone rang. It was one of her people from Zero.*
Kelly: Oh great, what's he done this time................... What!! Where?? ................... What was he doing out in a glider? ................... With her? *Kelly got several ideas of what happened, and she wasn't happy. * Damn, I'm gonna kill that kid. Do they have anyone looking for them? .................... Navy search and rescue, who authorized?.............. Oh........ Damn, they better have crashed, or they're going to wish they had. *When she heard how they had disappeared off the radar, her images of what happened changed.*
*Kelly forgot her supper, she pocketed her phone and ran out the door yelling for Samuel to get the car. Kelly felt a bit sick inside, she knew Mike was a good pilot, so what could have happened to them. The only explanations she could think of were bad.*

*Mike sat stunned, Aki's grip on his wrist was so tight her nails were cutting into his skin. Everything was wrong............ The glider sat grounded an a wide plain. The night sky was full of stars. Not the sprinkling of stars seen from earth, but was crowded with stars of all sizes and colors. So many stars that even a human could easily have read by their light. Off to the right was a great city, it's spires rose toward the sky. The distant buildings must be immense, one hall covered kilometers, its doors alone must be hundreds of meters wide. Aki's voice woke Mike to action.*
Aki: Mike, someone's coming.
*Mike looked out Aki's side window, a lone figure was approaching, a woman dressed in long flowing cloths. Mike got out of the plane and hurried around to help Aki out of her door. Whoever the woman was, she must have the answer to what had happened.*
*As Aki got out of the plane, she looked over Mike's shoulder at the tall woman. She was taller than even AKi's mother...... only a few centimeters shorter than Mike himself. Her long blond hair flowed over her shoulders. Aki looked into the woman's blue eyes and immediately realized she knew who this beautiful woman was.*

*Mike turned to face the woman. She was looking him over, from head to toe.*
Mike: Where are we, what are we doing here?
Sif: This is your home Tyr........ ah, Micheal, this is Asgard. You've grown so tall, and strong, like your father...... I've waited so long to see you, son. *Sif stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Mike.*
*For a moment, Mike felt confused, he started to wrap his arms around the woman..... then pushed her away.*
Mike: Mother?.... You say your my mother? then why..... why did you abandon me, why did you send me away?
Sif looked up at he boy, tears in her blue eyes: No, Micheal, I didn't abandon you, we could never abandon our child. It was a trick of that evil Loki, he stole you away. Thor..... your father, searched for many months before he found you, but by then, you were already grown. I wanted to bring you back, bring you home right then, but Thor thought they were teaching you well, and you might be safer there........ Perhaps he was right, but I had to see you, I had to know how you've grown.
For Mike this changed things: I... I always thought that my mother didn't want..........
Sif hugged Mike again: I've always wanted you, son, but could never find you. Now I brought you here to warn you....
*Thoughts swirled in AKi's head. She'd heard the ancient legends, the stories of the gods that the elders kept in there old books. She stepped back and stared at the two.*
Aki: Asgard! But I thought they were just stories, not a real place. But Asgard is the home of......... Your father is Thor? But the Aesir are the gods..... You're gods. *Aki took another step back, her eyes wide in disbelief. If this woman was of the Aesir, then Mike was....... she couldn't believe it, she didn't want to, she just wanted Mike to be her boyfriend, not some god.*
