Hideki: No... my shots didn't have any effect on it...

* Meanwhile, Araq was walking away looking angry. One of his subordinates walked next to him. *

Subordinate: Araq-sama... why did you kill him?

Araq: Because he ignored direct orders! Kagg may be ok with soldiers like that but that's something I don't want in my brood, understood!?

Subordinate: Ye-- yes, sir!

* Hideki turned around after checking the monster was really dead (by shooting a couple of times to it's head) and began walking to the truck. Some of his troops came by and he ordered them to pick up everything and go back to base. When they got to the truck, he met Mike and Kelly. *

Hideki: We are going back to base. You're welcome to come with us.

[Raine]

*One of the surbodinate ask rina if she needed any help,she shook her head,handing him the red katana,he look at her surprise*

Rina:i have no use for it....took it from one of the beast that attack me*smiles*

*she was about to follow hideki when a pain struck her,she grab her chest breathing hard,she hurried off to an empty area*

Rina*falls on the ground sweating,a bright light came out of her,stares up to see an alf version of herself*:Ria...

Ria:Look what you did to yourself...you used too much!!!baka!!*she yell standing beside rina,healing her*your not as strong as your friends keep that in mind rina...just cos you can use my magic isn't enought it drains a lot from especially now that....

Rina:don't say it!!!

Ria:you do know if this continues then our existence is meaningless...

*Ria was like a ghost being trasparent as if an illusion,but rina knew she's real after all she's her..selene approach rina worried for her friend glowing faintly as if she was being drain away.Rina knew selence couldnt see Ria...*

selene:Rina!!!what's going on??why are glowing faintly...i'll call hideki

Rina:Don't im ok...Selene dont tell him!!!dont tell him

*Ria nodded at rina,as she went back inside of her rina's look went back to normal*

Mike looked out the door at Hideki: I was planning on coming to your base. I didn't come out here to find you, just to run off again. Kunikida can stay on top and use the command system to direct the driver. If you have anyone wounded, get them up on the truck too. I'll see you at the base.

*Kunikida directed the driver and they got to the base a bit ahead of Hideki and his men. Mike got out and set Aki down. Mike's arm was swollen and burned like hell from the monsters bite. He wished he had some of the potion that Mai Lei used, it could heal the bite quickly. Oh well, it wouldn't kill him, just hurt for a while, and he wasn't about to ask Aki to help, she'd used enough magic the last few days.*

*Mike turned and lifted Ringo out of the truck as a curious group gathered, medical people helping with the few who had been injured.*

Ringo: Hey!!.... let go, you don't have to help.......

Mike: Yes I do,...... It's the least I can do, after all.....

Leanne: (Med tech, and Ringo's friend) RIngo! what happened? That must have been some battle, I've never known a demon to be able to get to you.

Mike: I shouldn't have pushed her so hard ..... it's my fau........

Ringo: It's nothing!, Ok.... just let it be.

Leanne: Not a demon? And he pushed you.... How did that happen?

Ringo: IT'S NOT IMPORTANT!..... *Moans and holds her head. then steps down on her sore ankle.* Ow! Damn it..... Just get me some ice for my ankle, ok?

Leanne looked at Mike: Well, thanks for bringing my crabby roommate. She isn't always like this........ Oh, your arm, what happened.

Mike: One of those darned snake demons bit me.

Leanne turned pale: Oh lord, their poison's deadly...... we don't have any way to.....

Mike: Na... don't worry, it hurts like hell, but I won't die from it. I've been bitten before. I should have brought some of Mai Lei's potion, just didn't think of it. I'll just have to grit my teeth and bear it for a while.

Leanne: I've never seen anyone survive a bite, you're sure you'll be alright? *Mike nodded.* *Leanne helped Ringo hobble away, she knew she'd get the truth of what happened out of her soon. There was something strange and interesting about that tall guy.*

*Mike and Aki were swamped by hugs as Selene found them. Mike smiled, Selene sure fit her name, the moon goddess, and with all those weapons, looked the part of the huntress too. Kunikida greeted them very enthusiastically too. He invited them into the command headquarters, Kelly was with them too. The old hospital building was big, and Kunikida showed them their operations, Mike was thoroughly impressed. They had a top notch surveillance system, and very adequate perimeter defenses. These guys knew what they were doing.

Kunikida: The big problem now is supplies. We're starting to run short.

Selene: Mostly short of food, but the ammunition we could make from supplies in the stores here is getting short too.

Kunikida: A lot of our food supplies came from scavenging in the ruined towns. We found a warehouse full of food supplies. It's lasted pretty well, but we're going to run low on food soon. We've talked about abandoning this place, trying to go to the city, but Hideki is pretty adamant about holding out here. Some of the others don't want to go to the city either. Life isn't easy there, especially for outsiders.

Mike: You shouldn't have to leave. There must be a way to get supplies to you.

Kelly: The government tried to supply some other villages that tried to hold out. The convoys didn't get through, even with tanks they were overrun.

Mike: If you can't do it, I'll hook a trailer behind my truck and do it myself.

Kelly: I didn't say we couldn't do it..... I just said it didn't work before. We just need a better plan, and that damned truck of yours might just be the ticket. If we could come up with a couple gun platforms like that. There aren't any more of those trucks around operational, but we could maybe get some.

Kunikida: Ringo might be interested, she's head of supply. and it's been getting harder to find supplies, having to go farther out to secure any. But would the city even try to support us?

*Aki looked around the base. She was curious about how the things worked. It was different in the neko village where they were able to grow the food they needed and they had a stream for water. It didn't seem different from when she and Mike arrived two years ago, only isolated. But here, Aki saw the full effect of the monsters. The place was probably a thriving city before the ambush began.*

*She saw a medical group helping the injured as they stepped out from the truck. Mike was helping a protesting Ringo down when a woman came over with a worried look. When the woman took Ringo away Aki's gaze fell on Mike's arm. It was slightly swollen, she hadn't noticed it earlier because she was too tired and disoriented but after a quick rest she felt better. Still a little tired but she was capable of doing a healing spell. Before she could offer to heal him they were both ambushed by hugs from Selene and Kunikida. Selene was beside her as they walked she quietly excused herself when she saw Rina going into a different room. She caught up with her old friend, a smile on her face.*

Aki: Hey, Rina-chan...*Aki stopped, something felt different with Rina. She couldn't pinpoint it because Rina looked fine and as she had when Aki saw her again. Still, Aki wasn't one to ignore feelings.* Are you okay? You're not tired are you? The fight earlier was too much...maybe you should rest...*Rina smiled and said that she was fine but there was something bothering Aki but she shook it off, she was just glad that her friend was fine.*

*Back in the Sealed City, in the current Ayashi residence Toru was wearing a path on the rug in the living room. Ai watched him from her place on the sofa. The neko boy had his arms crossed on his chest while a troubled look settled on his face, he was walking back and forth. Ai was both worried and amused, Kyo used to do that too when he was worrying about Aki.*

Ai: Toru-kun...why don't you sit down? Aren't you tired yet from all that pacing?

*Toru stopped and blushed, he gave Ai a sheepish look before shaking his head*.

Toru: I'm alright Ai-san...it's just that Mama is late...they should be back, right?

*Ai did share the same notion but she believed that her daughter was alright, the gods wouldn't be cruel enough to send Aki home then have her killed the next day. And she wondered about Toru, the neko boy had a tendency of referring to Aki as either 'Mama' or 'Aki-san'. Ai knew that Aki wouldn't mind either and that her daughter had already adopted Toru, though not legally yet. But it seemed that Aki and Toru's relationship was a little too complex. In that day that she spent with Toru she realized that Toru thought of Aki as his best friend and his mother. That was probably the reason why he kept calling her 'Aki-san' and 'Mama'.*

Toru: I'm really worried Ai-san...what if something bad happened? Mama and Mike-san...

*Ai stood up and knelt next to Toru. She took him in her embrace and soothed him, when Toru called Aki 'Mama' he was usually going to strong emotions and Ai realized that Toru was deeply worried about Aki.*

Ai: They are fine, Toru-kun. They will be fine. And they'll come back, alright?

Toru, nodding: Yes...they will.

*With a smile Ai let go of Toru and stood up, she checked the clock.*

Ai: Why don't we start dinner Toru-kun? We'll be having guests tonight. You'll love to meet them. They're your Mama's old friends.

Toru: Aki-san's friends?

Ai: Calm again? This boy's good at controlling himself. *Ai smiled at Toru.* Yes, they were very good friends. Let's go prepare a delicious dinner, Mike-kun and Aki might be back by dinner.

*Nodding enthusiastically Toru followed Ai to the kitchen.*

* Hideki had left the group and was with the medical team and other two squads. After finishing talking with Kunikida and Selene, Kelly walked up to him. *

Kelly: Hideki, we need to talk.

Hideki: What about?

Kelly: Can we go somewhere... private?

Hideki: Don't know if you've noticed but I'm a little busy here, so you can tell me here whatever it is you need.

* Kelly looked up to see two of the squad leaders walk up to them, interested by the conversation. She recognized them as old members of Level Zero, who had left the city with Hideki two years ago. She sighed and continued. *

Kelly: Fine. We need you back at Level Zero.

Hideki: Sorry, not going.

* Kelly was taken back by how fast he answered. She was hoping he would at least think about it. *

Kelly: Hideki, we need you there. We can--

Hideki: Don't lie to me, Kelly. you and everyone else in Level Zero thought I was dead. Don't you think we noticed how your people stopped looking for us?

Kelly: We didn't had the resources to keep looking! And what about you? Why didn't you try to go back to the city.

Hideki: One, I was busy helping the ones here survive. And two... there's nothing there worth going back for...

* Kelly clenched her fist and looked at him straight in the eyes. *

Kelly: Master Chief, I'm ordering you to go back to Level Zero with me!

* Hideki stared at her with cold eyes then shook his head. *

Hideki: You can't order me around anymore, Kelly. See this uniform? This is not Level Zero, this is the Sleeping Forest Paramilitary. These people need me more than you do and I don't intend on abandoning them.

* Kelly looked at the two squads leaders next to them and they stepped back. Mio Suzuki, a former Level Zero major lieutenant, looked at Kelly apologetically while speaking. *

Mio: Sorry, ma'am, but I'm with him on this. He's saved my life more than once... I owe him... and everyone here as well.

* Kelly turned around and walked away angrily. Hideki watched her for a moment, then looked at Mio. *

Hideki: Thanks for backing me up.

Mio: Don't mention it.

*Mike and the others were walking toward the main offices when Mike saw Kelly talking to Hideki. He guessed what that had been about. Mike walked up to Kelly.*

Mike: Don't push it Kelly, he doesn't belong to you.

Kelly: Yes he does. Unlike you, Hideki did sign up with the military, and he's going to come back.

Mike: Sure, you got him to sign up..... when he was under age, and you know it. He's got a good thing here, it's important that this group keeps going. Don't force him to fight you too. *Mike turned and started walking away.* Try helping these people, Kelly, you might find that more valuable.

[Raine]

*Rina lean agaist the wall,she stared at hideki,her mind in turmoil at what she overheard.she sigh turning away she smile at aki standing ext to her,she notice she was worried about her,she gave a reassuring smile.*

Rina:i need to rest...later then

*she walks away in need to be alone,she was glad kelly didnt talk to her she despise level zero*

Daiki let kimara drag him like a dog on leash,she seem very excited after overhearing the news of aki and mike,he was busily staring at her back as her hair kept swaying in the wind,it was the abrupt stop that caught him off guard into nearly crashing into her.

Daiki:you should be careful?

Kimara:It's you again....

Daiki eyes move to the girl panting in front of them,her eyes were fixed directly at him,he look from kimara to the girl.

????:I finally found you....your the grandson of one of the kitsune's elder right?your daiki-kun...

daiki:err yes

*Miri began to cry,kimara came to hug her*

Kimara:what is it?what's wrong child....

Miri:oneesan....oneesan is alive and your lives are in danger,kimara-chan...from the dog clan

Kimara*pulls back quickly*:how did you know and who's oneesan?

Miri*takes out a picture and gives it to them*:thats the whol altan group right...the girl your leaning on is my sister akiyam rina and your the dog girl right kimara

* Hideki finished what he was doing and went to look for Rina. He wanted to talk with her, since they hadn't had a chance since she got there. He asked several people for her but none had seen her. Some minutes later, he found himself opening the door leading to the roof. Rina was in a corner, staring at the horizon. Hideki walked up to her and stopped when she was at arms reach and noticed her pensive face. *

Hideki: Rina? Are you ok?

[Raine]

*Rina didnt look at hideki,somehow she knew he would come,he always did.*

Rina:just thinking...what i should do now that i know my friends are all alive...well exept for kimara and daiki...im pretty sure they are...i wonder if i should stop my search and go back to see if i can get more information to the whereabouts of the current apparition of monsters....

*She didnt dare to look at him,she knew she would break,her heart wouldnt take it.two years ago she would have cried and hug him never let him go,but things have change now,they have changed.*

* Hideki went next to her and leaned his back to the rail, looking in the opposite direction Rina was looking at. *

Hideki: So that means you won't stay here with me...
