A lot of us are hoping that they can end this darn war business. I was never in favor of it..... or any war. I just hope they find a way out without giving everything to the groups of terrorists. I never could understand why the US thinks they should be the world's police force. It was nice to see Sadam gone, but, that area belongs to the Iraqi people, let them run it the way they want.

Yes Democracy still works.

You could always come and visist Minnesota. We'd be nice to you, after all, I, just 30 miles from New Ulm.

We're going to see the exhibit of the artifacts from the H. M. S. Titanic, should be interesting.

The problem is... The Iraq wasn't/isn't related to terrorists. Bush jr wanted to finish business his father started, and so the world (the UN) discovered the tale of "Weapons of Mass Destruction". Now we have this war where American soldiers die for nothing, where Iraqi die for nothing, where money is being spend for nothing, but to me it seems Americans didn't really care since Bush jr could do as he wished the whole 4 (8) years. That's something I will never understand, and it deeply reminded me of the behaviour of Germans in the dark years between 1933 and 1945.

Once Bush jr is "gone", he might have to face some serious trials for that he's considered a criminal who started a war of aggression. Very sad and frightening at the same time that the world's most powerful man is connected to crimes, but I have hopes Obama is a different kind.

The 'Lame Duck Presidency' gave me a free pro copy of CodeWeaver's Crossover, a Wine based application emulating the Windows API on Linux, allowing plenty of games and Office tools to be run.
The US currency lost about 50% of it's value, allowing me to buy US services for less and less money. I once got 0.78US$ for one Euro, now I get approximately 1.42US$.
The US printed about 1.2 BILLION Dollars which will result in the worst inflation of currency we have witnessed ever in the US.
And that's why Olray never accepts payments in US$.
Not to mention the reputation loss of the government outside the US. I wouldn't even tell them how I am.
This is the war that was never supposed to be started...

The documented (!) civilian deaths in Iraq up to today is 88,878 – 97,005 depending on whether you read the US news or Iraqui news. Somehow I cannot really enjoy buying stuff for US$ or use my Crossover...

Obama says he would retreat all US troops from the Iraq until March 2009.
There's lots to clean up, both in te US and in Iraq.

But remember - that's what he said during the campaign. You can't hold a politician to anything he says during a campaign. He's got a good chance at it, thanks to the troop surge over the past half year, but he still can only do what he can do - not necessarily what he promised to do.

That's why we should judge his (Obama's) policy after four or so years. I was surprised to read postings by so-called true conservatives calling Obama a Marxist, Socialist and more although his reign didn't even start yet. It sounded as if they wished for his policy to fail which... was interesting to me. (Shouldn't true conservatives wish for any president to succeed since it helps the country? So working together might be the best choice now.)
Instead everyone should be glad the nightmare Bush is over - I can only say good luck to the USA with cleaning up this mess Bush left behind. I'm really really looking forward to the litarature that will be written soon regarding Bush's presidency, I'll put this book right next to those featuring Hitler, Stalin and Bin Laden (no offence).

I'm just hoping President elect, Obama, can accomplish all the things he said he would during his election campain. I'm afraid he is going to find the reality a lot harder than the dream. He's young and very inexperienced, I hope the other national leaders of the world aren't able to take advantage of him.

Until now it was the other way and where not possible it was lies, lies, lies.

Almost every country has it's problems with government lies. That's why the first definition you find in a dictionary for the word liar, is politician. Maybe our new president will be an honest man. Lord knows we haven't had one since Reagan was President.

Yeah agreed, politics is a shady business in the eyes of us "standard" humans. But the difference I see between Bush jr and my lying politicians is that politicians in my country don't use lies to start a war which causes the death of many and many innocent and helps no one. We still see these wars in Africa a lot, but the USA should be different; I'm sure we don't need another World War to realise what's right and wrong.

Obama is not the Messiah, but people outside the USA have hopes that he won't confuse a peacemaker with a gun. :)
I'm not sure if McCain's world policy would have been that much different from Bush's being an ex soldier and a conservative, perhaps he would have cared for his troops - but that's not something we have to worry about anymore. What I know is that Bush did not care for your troops.

McCain did want to get us out of the war, as soon as possible. I don't know if Obama has the experience to know how to get out, without just losing the whole thing to the terrorists. I was stunned when this war in Iraq started, I was sure there was no way Bush would start a war there. The thing that scares me about it is Obama said we shouldn't be in Iraq, we should be In Afghanistan in a bigger way and find Bin laden. And if he's hiding in Pakistan and they don't co-operate, we should just go in there and straighten things out............. Scary words.
