Finished a couple more series.

Yukikaze: This one is for fans of aircraft, alien wars, and personal, internal journeys. It centers around a pilot, and his very advanced AI aircraft, Yukikaze. They are our advanced hope against the aliens. Check the pictures gallery for the folder Yukikaze and more for some good picts. A good series for the military and aircraft lovers, it is very deep and mysterious. In the end, I was still wondering what happened. I'll need to watch it again.

Genres: Drama, Military, Psychological, Science Fiction
Age rating: Teenagers (May contain bloody violence, bad language, nudity)
Plot Summary: Thirty-three years ago, an alien force known as the "JAM" invaded Earth through a dimensional portal over Antarctica. Earth's forces managed to drive the JAM away to a distant planet designated as "Fairy." While majority of Earth's population is unaware of the JAM's presence, the war continues on Fairy. Sentou Yousei Yukikaze chronicles the life of Rei Fukai, an SAF (Special Air Force) pilot assigned to pilot "Yukikaze" - an advanced reconnaisance fighter plane equipped with a near-sentient A.I. that detects the presence of the JAM within its path.

The second is Angel Links: This is a pretty good anime set in the Outlaw Star universe. A good story line, interesting characters, some surprises along the way, and a very good ending. If you enjoy scifi space opera, this is worth getting.

Genres: Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Romance, Science Fiction
Age rating: Teenagers (May contain bloody violence, bad language, nudity)
Plot Summary: Li Meifon is the head of a free, no expenses paid protection/security agency for escorting ships across outer space. Though only 16, she posesses great skill and leadership qualities while commanding her crew aboard their ship, the "Angel Links." However, some unpleasant memories begin to trouble her and she starts questioning her own past and reason for existence. Join Li Meifon and the rest of the Angel Links crew on their adventures through the Oracion star system as they battle pirates, government organizations, and a Tao master, all while finally uncovering Meifon's dark and mysterious past.

Le Portrait de Petite Cossette: or here in the US just Petite Cossette.

Darn, this was so good, when I got home I had to order it from rightstuf. The story is a dark love story, a psycological horror story, dark and deep. The story uses a lot of imagery to convey meanings. The artwork is stunning, beautiful, the music score is wonderful. I was just glued to this three episode series. If you like the dark type of anime, this one must be one of the best. Anime on DVD gave this A ratings, even though he says he doesn't usually like this type story. It's rated 15+ for the violence. You really should try this anime.

"Who loves me so much that he would forsake his own dear life... Is it you?"

Eiri, a talented art student, works part-time in an antique shop in a quiet part of town. One afternoon, he uncovers a delicate Venetian glass holding a startling secret within. When Eiri peers into the glass, he can see a young blond girl, her life playing out like a movie solely for him to see. Curious, he stares into the glass, hoping to learn more about the enchanting girl inside.

This is Cossette, a mysterious beauty haunting the glass, waiting 250 years for someone to finally see her, and set her free. Eiri is soon obsessed with Cossette, determined to do anything he can to help her. Will Eiri see past all the illusions and discover the tragic truth about Cossette, or will he be consumed by anguish and obsession?

conclusion from anime on dvd

In summary:
Petite Cossette is unusual in many ways – a love story that’s almost devoid of happiness, with a style and presentation that makes it engrossing, and yet not exactly easy to watch. Dark, stylish and graphic, it does a very good job of conveying Cossette’s tragic past and what Eiri’s prepared to go through for her – add in the atmosphere that just drips from the show and you have a package that’s well worth watching. Easily recommended.

Galaxy Angel: I think it was series A, there are several series, the original, then Z, then A, then AA, crazy, just like the series. It's a lot of short episodes, and mostly absolutely crazy. The humorous adventures of the Galaxy Angels group as they find and protect the "lost technologies". This is laugh a minute stuff, get this one just for some lighter fair, you won't regret it.

Alright, I don't know where to put this. I just bought the anime Karas, and in the box was a free UMD disc of Ghost in the Shell. I guess these things play on Play Station Portable machines. If anyone has one of these machines and wants this disk, let me know. I have no use for it.

I second Le Portrait de Petite Cossette. This is an excellent movie/OVA. (In the US it is advertised as a movie, but it is actually 3 OAV that complete a story.)

If you like the art style and dark storyline of this movie, I would also suggest a series called "Soul Taker"
There was another series that I was thinking about, but I can't remember which one right now.

Ippo Makunocuhi's gentle spirit and lack of confidence make him an easy target for the bullies at his high school who regularly beat him up. Then, he's rescued from a beating by Takamura, a-larger-than-life professional boxer who inspires Ippo to learn the art of boxing. After passing one of Takamura's outrageous tests, Ippo attempts to join the Kamogawa Boxing Club, but Chief Kamogawa refuses to believe Ippo has a fighter's spirit and requires Ippo to spar with Miyata, an extraordinarily talented and skilled boxer. Can Ippo even survive the first round?!

The anime Fighting Spitrit is one of the big "sleepers" out there. Not a very good seller, due to it's boxing theme I'm sure, it is a very good drama, and has plenty of great humor. We got through the episode of Ippo's first professional fight, and I nearly hurt myself from laughing so hard at the "manly" humor at a bar after the fight. This anime is very uplifting, even Ippo's opponents are good enough that you wish for them to win too. There is enough dramatic intensity to keep your heart rate up too. Think of this a bit like the theme of the Rocky movies, but with a very shy and gentle highschool boy. It's a long series, and an even longer manga. I highly recommend this for anyone.

Ok, the one you really are waiting for.

Princess Tutu: Right, sounds like everything I wouldn't want in an anime. Wrong! This is the other anime I had to order when I got home. The story is about a young girl, named Duck, who is a student at a Ballet school. She is, of course, not a very good student, often in trouble, and has a crush on a senior, Mytho. There are a few problems for our little ballarina, first, she's a duck, second, Mytho has no heart, third she is living inside an unfinished story "The Prince and the Raven" inside a story. A fairytale in a fairytale. With a magical necklace, our heroine, can transform into the elegant Princess Tutu to retrieve the pieces of the boy's shattered heart. There are many references to children's stories and fairytales in this anime, but each is twisted from it's origin. The musical score is superb, classical and Ballet music. The story is humorous and dramatic, the art is very nice, cute and beautiful. They blend the story, the dance, the music themes, so very well. This is an excellent and fun anime, I recommend it for everyone. Even the price is good, give it a try.

summary of the review from anime on dvd

In Summary:
Steeped in fables and other tales often told to children these days, Princess Tutu is a beautiful combination of a lot of fantastic elements that are given a strong basis in a form of reality from our past. Bringing it together through the form of ballet and classical music, it stands out against just about every other show out there which would normally just be a marketing gimmick but they make it integral to the story itself. Free of fluff and filler, set with a single goal and a real sense of beauty in order to tell it all, Princess Tutu is not only a gem in the catalog of ADV Films but a gem in the realm of anime releases in general. This is one of the shows that should have strong crossover appeal to the mainstream since it has a lot of familiar elements to it. While maybe not the best introduction to anime, it is a series that should be in just about everyone's library.

Elfen Lied is a great choice, but not for those who don't like violent and gory anime. I knew it was going to be great when it opened with a guys are getting cut off.

Another recomendation, but for those a bit older, like 18+.

Golden Boy: A really good comedy anime, with some interesting morality plays in the background. I had forgotten the bits of nudity in this series, but it isn't too offensive. We just finished watching it at work, and my hired man just about fell out of his chair laughing at the first babe, in the very beginning, and her bouncing b....... ok. This six episode series has one of the best wrap ups in the last episode of any I've seen. I really recommend it for those who don't mind their humor a little risque.
