Favourite codec pack + media player

Post by Zeratul2k » July 31st, 2012, 6:47 am

We all know the fastest way to watch anime is getting the fansubbed versions, but the fansub groups use some pretty exotic codecs, sometimes. I was thinking about it as I was trying to make some 10-bit H.264 releases work and decided to ask everyone here, what's your favorite codec pack (or individual codecs, though I doubt anyone goes to those lengths anymore) and/or media player?

In my case, I use the CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) and it's included Media Player Classic, though I've found having a portable version of VLC around is pretty handy at times.

Yet it was a bit of a pain to get it working for said 10-bit H.264 videos. I'm blaming all the unneeded codecs installed by all the different development tools and assorted crapware that have gone through this computer in the name of research, though... another reason for me switching to virtual machines and leaving the base OS install just for games and music.

Same here. I pretty much run everything through VLC. It has played everything I have thrown at it so far.

WMP player works better for many of the video files, but I use VLC for anything WMP doesn't like.
