Free Doujin game demo

Post by JHawkNH » August 20th, 2010, 7:20 pm

A group is giving away free demos of a Doujin game that they are translating called Recettear.

So just what is Recettear, you ask?
Recettear is a game about an item store, the girl who lives in it, and the fairy whose job it is to make sure that the girl doesn't burn down the item store by accident.

Playing the game involves gathering items - either by playing the markets in the city of Pensee, or grabbing an adventurer and delving into the dungeons that dot the countryside - and selling them to the customers who come through your doors. Tear, the fairy, is here to collect on a loan your father took out - and she'll have to take the store, which doubles as your house, if you can't pay up!

The game is split into two main parts, then: selling items, and exploring dungeons. There isn't really much of anything quite like this combination in any other game, and the number of items you can find is massive.

Selling items and dungeon diving isn't all there is to do, however. There's quite a cast of characters to meet in Recettear, some friendly, some less so. Their fates tie into your own, though, and helping them out could lead you to riches beyond your wildest dreams!

So what're you waiting for, Recette Lemongrass? You've got a debt to pay, and only so much time to do it in.

Better get cracking.

It is free right now, but they will begin selling it once they have finished the translations. Think of it as a demo/beta. I am going to download it tonight and try it out.

Here is a link to the site.

I have been playing this game a bit now and find it very fun. As I have been playing it I reilised how simple it would be to create a game like this. I figured that this would be a fun group project for AAW.

I can do the programming.
We have artists in Hiki and others.
We have a number of story tellers on this forum. (Oldwrench, Dinky, Z2K)
And any of us could be voice actors in the game.

I already have a basic premis and story line in mind. Is this something you guys would like to do as a group for fun?

I can help with programming as well, don't forget that :meh:

I have been wanting to make a game since forever so I'm in by default.

Good Idea JH. Might be fun to see what we come up with. I suppose I should look at the game, though I'm not a gamer, I might get to see what this is all about.
Dogs have owners, Cats have staff

Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

Great, then I will start a new thread later will all the detail I have for the game so far.
I am going to program it in VB.Net since that is the compiler that I have access to and I already have a large amount of graphical code for it. Would you still be able to help with that language Z2K?

I had planed on makeing the game a simple 2D game like you see most dating sims. If you check out Recettear, it will be very close in style to it. Not very graphics intense (no 3D) so it can be played on a large range of computers.

It's been ages since i last touched anything remotely related to .NET (software patents...) but I guess I could get up to speed quickly enough. Just need to set up a virtual machine and install Visual Studio on it, no?
