Blu-ray?

Post by JHawkNH » March 5th, 2010, 3:49 pm

Blu-ray is considered the futer of video media.
1. Do you think it will ever have as big an impact as DVD's did?
2. Do you own any Blu-ray movies?
3. What will it take for you to begin purchasing Blu-ray movies?

For me:
1. No, I think other media, specificly direct download, will keep Blu-ray from becoming as big as DVD's were at their peak.

2. I own 5 Holleywood movies in Blu-ray and two Anime series in Blu-ray. I am boing to buy anime series in Blu-ray when ever it is possible because it is the same cost as the DVD's

3. I started buying Anime Blu-ray over DVD's because it was the same price. I only by Sci-Fi movies on Blu-ray for non-anime.

Oooh~! I OWN A BLU-RAY DISC!!
FINAL FANTASY VII: ADVENT CHILDREN COMPLETE <33333

I bought it as blu-ray because it's only available as blu-ray :3

I dunno whether it will make a big impact or not... but I don't think so...

Well, let's see...

1- I don't think any physical media will make an impact as the DVD did anymore, but that's just my opinion. Specially because it has taken quite a while for decent Blu-Ray players to drop in price. Actually, that's the reason why...

2- No, I don't own any. The cheapest decent (and legally imported) Blu-Ray player around here is the PS3, and that's still over 1.000.000 pesos (around 500 USD, or half the cost of a motorbike). The other option is getting a computer with a Blu-Ray player, but even those add around 300 USD to the final price, which is quite a lot (at least for me).

3- Let's start with cheaper players, then we'll talk.

I believe streaming and downloaded media is going to take away much of the blue ray market. DVD didn't have that kind of competition.

No. DVD's were a huge jump from analog to digital media. BluRay is a media hype pushed by international companies. It's a disk with 25 gigs memory instead of a maximum of 8 gigs.
Streaming media is the future but it won't come anytime soon because you cannot sell them as a physical good. Also, DVD's have a higher life span compared to BluRay.

Really? I thought Blu-Ray was suppose to have a longer life then DVD's.
Do you know what the est. lifespan for each formate is?

We'll be buying a blu-ray player when our dvd player dies. We've seen some for $30, so getting a decent one will hopefully be around the $70 range.
Currently, we don't own any blu-ray discs, because we've got nothing to play them on!
And no way will they be as big as dvds, as everyone has already stated, because of the option of downloading. Actually, we've already gone to downloading most new movies we want- honestly of course. Apple has a great selection, and the prices are either comparable or cheaper. :thumb: And- unless we burn out a copy, there's no physical thing taking up more space! Gotta love that, ne?

I'm still sticking to my VHS, Prints( I have 16mm print Night of the Living Dead, And Wiz of Oz), Laserdic, And DVD, hahaha.

A lot of VHS copies have original musics, that the dvd copies couldn't reserve the rights, and my laserdisc have extras that aren't included in my dvd copies.

Before there was vhs, or beta, there were laser disc movie players, and the RCA movie disc, that played with a needle, like an lp record. I have one of the old RCA movie disc players.
