I also found the source of the rumour a bit later in the Wikipedia article:

"According to a German story, Fahrenheit actually chose the lowest air temperature measured in his hometown Danzig (Gdańsk, Poland) in winter 1708/09 as 0 °F, and only later had the need to be able to make this value reproducible using brine."

Guess it's just that: A German story :gg:

Personally, I think he just picked an arbitrary temperature and said that's zero, and another one for 100, but the coldest winter day and hottest summer day sounds as good as any. you could use the melting point of lead, or the boiling point of oil for that mater, but pure water is a good universal as long as you know the pressure to test at.

It's all relative!

In 2019, the metric units were recalculated on the basis of natural constants. The reason for this was that the original kilogram had lost some 50 millionths of a gram in mass, although it has been under three glass bells in a safe in Paris since 1889. However this is possible...
Natural constants are valid always and everywhere. Moreover, they do not change. :thumb:

Depends on which constant you use......... "the only thing constant is change".

This may be truth for this strange sphere we call "earth" :gg:

By the way: If it changes it's not a constant by definition :ho:

constant can't be change, but change can be constant........... a conundrum to be sure.

Hey, my gaming chair is old enough to justify a replacement. What do you think of this one?

Bunny Ears?? Where are the kitten ears? Ok, it does look like a nice comfortable chair for the long run.

It's been HOT here for the last few days. Must be making up for being below average for the last four months.

Found out I have the beginnings of Macular Degeneration, that's why my left eye has fuzzy vision. My father and grandfather both had it, It slowly takes away the center of your vision, reading and such degrade over time. There is no cure, vitamins help slow it down. Don't get old, it's bad for your health.

Been one heck of a month, the wife and my phones both died...$$$$$... The garage door springs broke...$... The dish washer broke and SHE, who must be obeyed, wanted a new stove too...$$$$$$$$$$$..... The electric garage door opener died.....$$$.... My lawn tractor broke....$$..... We had the heating system ducts cleaned....$$$.... now, my glasses frame broke. Maybe I should take a long vacation. Oh, our printer just decided it won't print yellow anymore, sigh, as the radio DJ says, "the hits just keep on coming".

As I always say: "Oh no, that's just a typical sign of old age. It subsides immediately after death." :hmm:

I went jogging the day before yesterday (half an hour in the city park, duck pond included! Great for cats (me)!) and came home just before a small rain shower. Only today do I learn that not 50 kilometres(1) away, a huge storm has flooded entire cities. I'm always lucky with the weather. Maybe I'm a little weather goddess? :ho: :pif:

1) Info for you: 50 Kilometers are 31.0686 miles

I always get nervous when you don't get in touch for weeks. We are not the youngest anymore :)

Is everything OK with you? :shy:
