I saw a poster in a coffee shop "any children not accompanied by an adult will be given a mocha and a free kitten."

Finally got my video card. € 215.- for a Radeon 7870 video card with 2 gigs of memory. It's a trusted shop with good service though so I don't mind the extra € 10.-
Purroblem is, when my computer goes into sleep mode the screen doesn't wake up. I have to reset the whole thing with the power button and hope it's shutting down cleanly. Fine, the card uses 1watt-hour when turned off. I just shut down the box when leaving the room. Major time waste...

You need to check with tech support, that shouldn't be happening. Something in the Bios?

The monitor doesn't receive the wakeup signal. They suggest using this HDMI cables, unfortunately my monitor is rather old and doesn't come with HDMI. Hmm. I always wanted one of these 27 inch monitor from the moment I saw the 27" iMac... my budget includes 50 Euro for computer stuff/month. Purrrhaps in half a year I can buy one of these sweeties.

And for some strange reason it all suddenly works. Sometimes (very rarely) in Firefox (and only Firefox) I have a checker pattern of foreground and background parts of the screen. Have to minimize and maximize the window for it to go away.
The new Windows 8 disk pool thingy is great I now have 10 TB in my box of which 8 are mirrored. Now I want the new 6G-board and a matching SSD. And Sally.
